William Lustig’s Maniac Cop DVD Release

A peek at the cover art and the full disc specs from Synapse Films for its new edition of MANIAC COP, William Lustig’s original 1988 chiller starring Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins as a young police officer and a lieutenant who take on a superhuman killer (Robert Z’Dar) garbed in the blue uniform. The disc sports a new 16x9-enhanced high-definition 1.85:1 transfer remastered from old vault materials, with new DTS 6.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio tracks along with the original 2.0 Surround sound. Supplements include:

* Audio commentary by Campbell, producer/writer Larry Cohen and others
* New featurette with Z’Dar
* Additional scenes filmed for Japanese TV broadcast
* Theatrical trailer
* TV spots

"Other surprises" are also promised, and the disc will retail for $24.95.

Dead End (DoodEind) Trailer

Distribution rights for Erwin van den Eshof's Dead End (DoodEind) are to be offered for sale by Mammoth Distribution LLC at this year's American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica, California. The movie is scheduled to be screened at Le Merigot #2 on Thursday November 2nd at 3:00 p.m. and Monday November 6th at 9:00 a.m.. R.C.V. Entertainment B.V. released it theatrically in the Netherlands on August 3rd.

Synopsis:
"Seven friends travel to Scotland to hike in the mountains, where they are attacked by large dogs. One of the friends is badly hurt, so they flee to an old abandoned house deep within the woods. They soon discover that the house is cursed - and once you've entered it you can't get out. A room transforms into another room, doors become lethal weapons, and one by one the friends are killed. The last survivors discover that the only way to get out is to discover the reason for the curse. And so they must undertake a terrifying journey to the dark centre of the house, where they are forced to confront their own destiny!"

Flower and Snake II Trailer

Media Blasters Inc. is scheduled to release Takashi Ishii's Flower & Snake II (Hana to hebi 2: Pari/Shizuko) - a.k.a. "Flower and Snake 2: Paris/Shizuko" - on DVD (TSDVD-0653; NTSC, region 1, Japanese w/ English subtitles) in the U.S. on December 5th. Toei Video Co. Ltd. (Tôei Bideo K.K.) released the movie theatrically in Japan on March 26th of last year, and on sale DVD (DSTD-02450; NTSC, region 2, Japanese w/o subtitles) there on September 21st of last year.

Synopsis:
"The beautiful Shizuko (Aya Sugimoto) and her husband Takayoshi Tooyama (Jo Shishido) have a loving relationship, but Takayoshi is getting older and isn't always able to perform. His primary source of gratification involves observing his wife in sadomasochistic scenarios, so he commissions a painter, skilled in the arts of bondage, to bring these fantasies to life. Soon Shizuko becomes a willing and submissive participant in fulfilling the S&M fantasies of not only her husband, but also a slew of rich, lecherous men."

A group of previously carefree college students become targets of a vengeful mutated killer in the post-apocalyptic thriller Future-Kill. Making its DVD debut from Subversive Cinema on October 31st, this ambitious independent horror film is well-remembered not only for reuniting "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" actors Edwin Neal (the Hitchhiker) and Marilyn Burns (Sally), but also for the striking poster art created by legendary artist H.R. The Redsin Tower premiere

ToeTag Pictures, creator of AUGUST UNDERGROUND, has announced that its new shocker THE REDSIN TOWER will make its New York City premiere at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater (155 East 3rd Street and Avenue A) on Sunday, October 29 at 7 p.m. Directed by Fred Vogel, TOWER is about a party held at the titular locale that turns bloody when the vengeance-seeking former boyfriend of one of the attendees comes calling. Tim Sullivan's Driftwood world premiere

Writer/director Tim Sullivan passed along the word that his new chiller DRIFTWOOD will have its world premiere on Friday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Hollywood’s Mann’s Chinese Theater (6801 Hollywood Boulevard), as part of this year’s LA Screamfest horror film festival. Stars Ricky Ullman, Talan Torriero and the rest of the cast will join Sullivan for the show, along with other surprise guest celebrities. DRIFTWOOD is set at an “Attitude Adjustment Camp for Troubled Youths” where newly arrived teen David (Ullman) is both tormented by the sadistic captain (Diamond Dallas Page) and haunted by the resident ghost.

Snakes on a Plane DVD

New Line Home Entertainment has revealed early details on Snakes on a Plane which stars Samuel L Jackson, Julianna Margulies, and Nathan Phillips. This wildly popular film will be available to own from the 2nd January, and should retail at around $28.98. The disc will carry an anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The full specs have yet to be revealed but it has been confirmed that the extras will include a gag reel, ten deleted scenes, a music video, an internet fan featurette, and much more.

Anchor Bay UK has announced the release of The Dario Argento Collection for the 2nd of October, priced at around £29.99. Feast DVD

Genius Products and Dimension Films have announced horror title Feast for 17th October 2006. This title stars: Balthazar Getty, Henry Rollins, Navi Rawat, Josh Zuckerman, Judah Friedlander, Jason Mewes, Jenny Wade and Krista Allen; it is directed by "Project Greenlight" winner and first time filmmaker John Gulager, and is executive produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Moore and Wes Craven. In terms of extra features, this unrated release will include: five deleted scenes, outtakes, two featurettes (Horror under the spotlight: The Making of Feast and The Blood and Guts of Gary Tunnicliffe) and a filmmaker commentary track. The audio track, subtitles and closed captions support English.

O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce

According to Variety, Dimension Films has acquired the movie rights to "O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce," an Image Comics series that launched in July. Dimension is crafting the project as a star vehicle for Rosario Dawson.

The actor has headlined five recent films for the genre division, and she co-created and co-writes "O.C.T." She'll play a Gotham police detective who, after stumbling upon a gruesome and bizarre crime scene, is enlisted for a covert squad that uses black arts and mystical weaponry to hunt down and kill soul-sucking ghouls. Dawson created the comic with David Atchison and Tony Shasteen, writing episodes with Atchison while Shasteen illustrates them.

Atchison and Shasteen will be co-producers on the film. Influenced by her experience making ‘Sin City’ with co-director and famed graphic artist Frank Miller, Dawson got the idea of launching her own.

Dawson recently completed ‘Killshot’ for Dimension. She is currently starring in the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez pic ‘Grindhouse’ and will reprise her role as ‘Gail’ in the ‘Sin City’ sequel.

Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! poster, screening info

Trent Haaga, producer/co-star of Chad (THE GHOULS) Ferrin’s EASTER BUNNY, KILL! KILL!, passed on the cool retro-inspired poster for the movie. He also reports that although EASTER BUNNY, in which a rabbit-masked killer takes violent revenge on behalf of an abused boy, has yet to secure a distributor, Ferrin’s Crappy World Films has locked in a screening at the Hollywood Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Film Festival in LA. It screens at the Arclight Cinema on Saturday, October 21 at 11 p.m.; click here to see the fest’s website. Regarding distribution, Haaga reveals that most distributors “have turned us down so far, saying that our little movie is ‘too weird’ for them or that it makes them ‘generally uncomfortable’ ”—which only makes us more anxious to see it.
